Privacy and Confidentiality
To secure the confidentiality of information and the privacy
of participants involved in research and evaluation projects,
some funding agencies will require review and approval from
an Institutional Review Board (IRB). A package must be submitted
to the board that explains the purpose of the project, how data
are to be collected and by whom, what system is in place to
ensure privacy and confidentiality, and how the data are to
be analyzed and reported.
Approval can sometimes be challenging, especially when the service
being delivered is for prevention rather than treatment. Also,
special populations have specific requirements, such as children
who may need active (as opposed to passive) consent to participate
in pre and post assessments. For these reasons, the content
and format of the package submitted to the board are very important.
WCS has experience preparing these packages and meeting IRB
requirements in various states.
